Getting book reviews on Amazon isn’t easy. So, when one goes missing, you notice. If this has happened to you, don’t freak out just yet. There a few reasons your Amazon book reviews disappear. Knowing the potential cause should put your mind at ease.
1. Your Review Came from a Family Member
Amazon doesn’t like it when book reviews come from your biggest fans. If all your reviews are close family or friends, those reviews may not stick around for long.
How does Amazon know your connection to your readers? Maybe they investigate your Facebook friends or track you via satellite. Maybe not. It’s impossible to know.
What is known, however, is that Amazon sometimes disappears book reviews that come from authors’ loved ones.
2. Too Many Too Fast, A Review Disappears
When your book releases, you want to get as many reviews as you can. And you want to get them fast.
There are a lot of ways to get a heap of reviews quickly, such as:
- Good use of a street team
- Rabid fan base
- Begging
Though these and other methods can procure a lot of legitimate reviews, gaining lots all at once can signal Amazon that something isn’t right. Since scoundrels pay people for lots of reviews and those reviews often come in fast and furious, Amazon assumes any author who gets lots of reviews fast is a scoundrel. Doesn’t matter that you’re not. If Amazon feels you’re up to tricks, they’ll your beloved book reviews may disappear.
3. The Reviewer Removes the Review
Every once in a while, a reviewer has a change of heart. If this happens, the reviewer has the right to remove the review.
What’s the result? Your book’s Amazon review disappears, dropping your review count by one. When this happens, there’s nothing you can do about it. Unless you know the reviewer. Then you can reach out and ask for another review.
4. Review Disappears When Customer Leaves Amazon
While some people rely on Amazon for everything under the sun, other people don’t. Sometimes, an Amazon customer becomes a former Amazon customer.
When people close their Amazon accounts, all their reviews disappear also. That includes your book review.
